As a senior placement professional, it should be known to our clients/families that we are forbidden from receiving payments from facilities for those residents who are “receiving” state-funded Medicaid Waiver or diversion funds. Although Placement professional won’t get into trouble and families won’t get into trouble, the assisted living facilities that your placement specialist refers your loved one to will get fined by AHCA here in Florida.

If the placement professional is referring you to a residential home versus a large facility that accepts the state-funded Medicaid Waiver benefit versus a larger facility, this could be because the residential facility is not aware of the laws in place.

Senior Placement is a newer industry and booming.  Although a wonderful and complimentary service for families, this industry is not regulated by governing parties. Should you choose to work with a placement specialist, please know If you or your loved one is receiving this benefit, ask to speak to your appointed Medicaid social worker to guide you to their partnered assisted living facilities.  You can contact North Star Senior Advisors for a complimentary list of facilities that accept the state-funded waiver program.

Always ask the senior placement advisor their background. Even if they say they’ve been in the “healthcare” industry for years, that does not make them an expert in Assisted Living Facilities.
