Great grandma goes zip lining! “I have a bucket list. And I am not going to stop until I finish it all,” a resident of Kankakee, Illinois intends to spend the rest of her life checking off each completed activity. North Star is proud to share her experience!

Jean S. is 88 years old, but that does not stop her from enjoying what she calls “just a regular day.”  From zip lining, parasailing, and to taking cruises to Alaska, Jean makes the absolute most of her time by knowing exactly what she wants to accomplish. With seven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren, she tells North Star Senior Advisors how she stays young and busy. “I live alone. But that doesn’t mean I’m bored or stopped wanting to experience new things. As long as I can see and drive, I won’t be stopping anytime soon either.” She always was a go-getter and you can really feel it when she speaks. She resides in an independent living community within Kankakee and has made several friends there. Jean also tells me she has worked for the City of Kankakee as a secretary for her husband, Jim. “They really were in love and had a passion for traveling and adventure,” Maddy, one of their grandchildren explains to me that they saw life as a reason to travel and try new things.

Earlier this year, zip lining was on her bucket list, unchecked. “Well, this can’t be.” Her daughter decided to go with her on another crazy adventure and this time to make sure they took pictures. With her thumbs up and wide smile, she says ”it was such a thrilling experience.”

It truly is remarkable to be able to fulfill your dreams even at 88 years old. Age really is just a number and staying young at heart is all that really matters. Speaking with Jean had such an impact on us and we hope to never lose that sparkle or enthusiasm that she embraces. Want to check out a zip line place nearby? Click here!
