When planning a transition into senior living, many people inquire about Covid-19 vaccinations for seniors. As of right now, they (Covid-19 vaccines) are not required to move into an assisted living facility in Orlando, FL and the surrounding area. That does not mean the majority of seniors are not vaccinated. As a matter of fact, most have taken the precaution to get vaccinated so that they can carry on with activities within their facility.
When the vaccine became available, assisted living facilities took initiative to offer their senior residents Covid-19 vaccine shots. Having the vaccine available for seniors and staff has proven to lower the chance of getting Covid-19. Assisted Living Facilities were also able to identify if there were any risks associated with the vaccine and provide the support if senior residents needed help.
According to the FDA, the vaccines for older adults are safe and effective. Fortunately, for those who are still not ready to get the vaccine, assisted living facilities allow unvaccinated residents to roam freely with a face mask. All staff no matter if they are vaccinated or not, must continue to wear their masks at all times.
So, what has changed for seniors who reside in assisted living facilities since Covid-19? As of recently, residents are allowed to come and go. They are also allowed to have visitors as long as friends and family who visit can show proof that they are free from Covid-19. Typically, upon entry, visitors will have to take their temperature and sign a waiver stating that they are not showing signs or symptoms of Covid-19 and most importantly, they are required to wear a facemask while indoors.
After touring the many assisted living facilities near Orlando, FL it’s safe to say that these places are taking all the necessary precautions to ensure resident and employee safety as well as are ahead of the game when it comes to Covid-19 shots for seniors. Residents are back to enjoying socializing with their friends while social distancing in their safe environment.
