Assisted living has evolved since our grandparents were faced with moving their loved ones into a facility. As a matter of fact, the term “facility” is rarely used these days as the word has been replaced with “Senior Living Community.” In today’s day in age where we are seeing baby boomers retire in record numbers, we may now notice a trend of seniors moving into Independent and Assisted Living communities more often than before. As a matter of fact, more and more seniors are asking to move into these very modern and lavish facilities for reasons to include additional care, housekeeping services, activities, and gourmet prepared meals! Please move me into a “home”
Instead of living at home isolated because friends have moved away or passed on, seniors will have the opportunity to interact with different people within their age group, cultural backgrounds, and common interests. Upon touring the many different senior living communities in Central Florida, you’ll notice that each has their own personal touch and amenities offered. Some communities offer fitness activities such as Chair Aerobics, Tai Chi, and Zumba! We often hear from families that their loved one won’t participate but you’ll be surprised what they learn to do and partake in! Exercise is good for joints and strength training.
You’ll want to ask for an activities calendar to see what planned trips and outings are available for the residents of the senior living communities. Some assisted living communities take their residents on cruises, sporting events, shopping trips, and more! Among the various outings, you’ll also find that residents enjoy book clubs, red hat society meetings, computer classes, and college courses!
Most importantly, gourmet meals are cooked and prepared for your loved one to enjoy so you don’t have to supervise their nutritional intake. Most senior living communities offer three meals per day and unlimited snacks in between. Housekeeping is done both daily and weekly so you don’t have to worry about your mom or dad climbing on a chair to dust ceiling fans, hence avoiding a fall.
Your loved one will enjoy their independence with the help of the many healthcare staff to ensure that their activities of daily living are taken care of. These daily routine tasks include help with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and more! Imagine having peace of mind knowing that your loved one is not only enjoying them self in an assisted living facility but also receiving the extra assistance that they need throughout the day? I don’t know about you but I say, sign me up!
