Today is National American Red Cross Founder’s Day which marks the anniversary of the American Red Cross, founded in 1881 by Clara Barton. The American Red Cross is a philanthropic organization that relies on more than 20 thousand nurses and other healthcare professionals to provide different types of assistance to those in the United States.
History
At age 59, Barton led the American Red Cross for 23 years beginning in 1881. While in Washington DC during the Civil War, Barton was working in the U.S. Patent Office where she assisted in collecting pertinent supplies and bandages. She soon realized she could support the Union troops in person at the battlefields by nurturing, supporting and cooking for the wounded, securing the name, “Angel of the Battlefield.” Upon her service completion, Barton traveled to Europe and learned about the Geneva, Switzerland Red Cross that protected the sick and wounded during wartime as well. After returning home, she determined to incorporate their Red Cross network into the U.S; hence The American Red Cross was born where she served as president until the age of 83.

While the Red Cross does an abundance of work for the overall community, our goal is to complement its services by providing senior living options and resources to Central Florida and the surrounding areas. It can be very time consuming and difficult to identify and tour every home, so we make it easy by presenting a few of our extensive network of qualified senior living communities based on you or your loved one’s level of care and personal interests. Each facility is unique with its own characteristics and we factor this in greatly with your preferences.
