Assisted Living Facilities hire activity directors who specialize in working closely with elderly residents to ensure they have plenty to do in their home away from home! Activities include ballroom dancing, music therapy, pet therapy, Bingo, current event games and of course arts and crafts! I love touring Central Florida Assisted Living Facilities to watch the senior residents participating in chair exercises or dancing to music from their era. I also enjoy looking at all the artwork they’ve done in order to brighten up their activities room and senior living community!
When touring assisted living facilities, ask about all the activities your loved one can participate in. Most families think their loved ones no longer enjoy participating in games or crafts but you’d be surprised what an activities director can do with a little persuasion! Your loved one doesn’t have to live in an assisted living facility in order to have fun! Have them play with the grandkids or sit with them and create new memories and make holiday crafts!
With the holidays are around the corner, a great way to get seniors involved in the festivities is by creating Arts and Crafts. It’s such a great pass time and sometimes crafting can be truly therapeutic. This past weekend I tried painting with alcohol ink for the first time. It was probably one of the best experiences I have ever had. I felt very therapeutic, and what’s cool about it is that you can get as creative as you want! So when you see your aging loved one sitting in front of the t.v. invite them over and create new memories with crafting! I’ve included other ideas that I found on feltmagnet.com below.
